Organic pigments are insoluble organic substances which are usually added to a substrate in a highly dispersed state to colour the substrate. The fundamental difference between organic pigments and dyes is that dyes are soluble in the dyeing medium used, whereas pigments are not soluble in the medium in which they are used nor in the substrate being coloured.
